SOLID WOOD TABLE CARE INSTRUCTIONS
Furniture made of solid wood has many esthetic and performance-related benefits, which need to be maintained with proper care.
Please notice, that the cold and dry winter climate together with the heating indoors creates a very dry environment, which can be unhealthy to people as well as the furniture of the house.
Also, during very humid months the furniture may suffer without proper care.
In a dry climate, the wood may shrink. This causes cracks, which is a very natural reaction of the wood to its environment. This kind of cracks will usually disappear when the climate turns more humid and the wood swells.
In very humid times the wood might swell and cause problems with moving parts such as drawers. In these cases, the wood will slowly shrink back to its original dimensions once the climate becomes dryer.
Humidifier
Humidifiers are a good help in restoring moisture in a dry environment. When the air condition is too humid, a dehumidifier reduces the amount of moisture in the air.
Relative Humidity Hygrometer
Hygrometers monitor the Relative Humidity of your house. The ideal condition for your furniture is 40-50% relative humidity at 20 degrees Celsius, which is the normal interior temperature.
Surface Treatment
Frequent application of surface treatment oil/soap/wax will help to maintain the wood's protective barrier against different attacks from the environment. We recommend natural wood oil mixtures as the surface finish. Please note that you should always wipe the surface clean and dry from any liquids as soon as possible. Clean the surface normally with a damp cloth, using organic soaps. In order to keep your table in the best possible condition, you should clean the tabletop with the very finest sandy cloth once a year. After that, treat the tabletop with natural wood oil or wax. Natural treatment sprays can be used as well. DO NOT use silicone-based or other non-natural treatment oils or waxes.
Cracks
In case you notice cracks in your wood in a dry climate, you can fill the cracks with soft wax. When the conditions are more humid, the wood will push the wax out as the crack closes. This way the extra wax can be easily removed.
